Why the project exists
Many image tasks can be completed without sending a source file to a conversion server. WebpForge is built around that local-first approach: choose a file, process it with browser APIs and local codec modules, inspect the result, and download it from the same device.
Local processing reduces unnecessary file transfers, but it does not remove normal website requests. The Privacy Policy separately explains image handling, server logs, saved preferences, and optional advertising.
How local processing works
On the current converter routes, the browser reads a selected file into memory and sends conversion work to a Web Worker where supported. Browser-based codec or canvas code decodes, transforms, and encodes the output.
- Selected files: Current local tools do not send selected image bytes to a conversion API.
- Device limits: Available memory, browser capabilities, malformed files, and image dimensions can affect results.
- Downloads: Output blobs are created locally and released when files are cleared or the page closes.
- Verification: Users should inspect important outputs and keep their originals.
Ownership and funding
WebpForge is an independent web project. The tools currently require no account or subscription and impose no site-managed daily quota, though browsers and devices have practical limits.
The site may be supported by Google AdSense advertising. Advertising is kept separate from image-processing controls, and the AdSense script is loaded only after the visitor allows advertising. There are currently no affiliate product recommendations in the guides.
Project code and development history are available in the public WebpForge repository.
Editorial standards and corrections
Technical guides are intended to explain format behavior, browser compatibility, compression tradeoffs, and practical workflows. Requirements from third-party services can change, so readers should verify current upload, passport, visa, or application rules with the organization that publishes them.
Content is reviewed when tool behavior or browser support changes. If a guide contains an incorrect claim, outdated requirement, or unclear explanation, send the page URL and correction details to hello@webpforge.com. Substantive updates are reflected in the article’s modified date.
