Choose the right output

WebP Converter

Convert WebP images to JPG or PNG without an upload. Choose JPG for opaque photographs and broad legacy compatibility, or PNG when transparency and lossless output matter.

Only the codecs needed for your chosen conversion load after file selection. Processing stays off the main UI thread, and multiple files move through a bounded queue suited to the device.

JPG or PNG?

The output format should follow the image and its destination—not a blanket rule. JPG is compact and widely accepted for photographs but cannot store transparency. PNG preserves transparency and sharp decoded pixels but often produces larger files.

  • Photograph with no transparency: start with JPG.
  • Logo, screenshot, diagram, or transparent asset: choose PNG.
  • Website already supports WebP: keeping the original may be the best option.

What local conversion changes

The source is decoded into pixels, optionally resized, then encoded into the selected format. This creates a new file and strips embedded metadata. The original file on your device is never modified.

For JPG output, transparent pixels are blended against the selected background color. PNG output keeps the alpha channel.

Clear answers

Frequently asked questions

Which output should I choose for WebP?

Use JPG for opaque photographs and broad compatibility. Use PNG for transparency, screenshots, text-heavy graphics, or lossless output.

Can I convert WebP without installing software?

Yes. A current browser supplies the runtime. The conversion codecs load into a Web Worker after you choose a file.

Does WebpForge alter the original file?

No. It reads the selected file and creates a separate output in browser memory.

What is the maximum batch size?

This page accepts up to 50 files per session. Actual capacity also depends on image dimensions and available browser memory.
